EMBODYEING HOME (2021)

Embodyeing Home is a collaborative textile project culminating out of a series of virtual workshops in natural dyeing and screenprinting with five young and emerging immigrant artists based in Toronto: Angela Cabrera, Diseiye Thompson, Carmina Miana, Dakini Crofton and Sahar Askary. Each artist created a wearable work made out of pieces of each artists’ unique natural dyed and screen-printed yardage. Each patchwork is based on traditional and contemporary articles of clothing that are indicative of the artists’ homelands or cultures namely: alpargatas, a cowboy hat, a durag, a blouse and a fan, a vest and a falda llanera. Through this project we reflected on spending a year at home while being away from our original homelands and how this affects our experiences and identities living in Canada.
