CHOREOGRAPHIES OF DECONSTRUCTION (2018)

In Choreographies of Deconstruction, I create a choreography filmed as a video performance, that uses re-enactment and interpretation to reflect on the tearing-down of monuments worldwide. The monuments selected for the choreography were destroyed in many different ways; sometimes by being carefully tied down and torn down by heavy government-funded machinery and tucked away elsewhere (Buenos Aires, Halifax, Baghdad, Barcelona), other times heavily vandalized, protested and led by student activism (Cape Town), other times torn down so they fall, breaking, bending (Durham, Tripura, in many cities throughout Ukraine), other times destroyed by human force (Caracas, Chiapas).

Made during my time at The Lab Program in Mexico City in 2018.
